‘Go home: the demon has left your daughter.’

Even when reprimanding and punishing Solomon for turning away, God shows compassion and mercy by not completely destroying his kingdom. In a similar way, Jesus shows great compassion towards a stranger, a woman who was not even a Jew. Many who sat in awe of Jesus would have considered her rude and inappropriate in speaking back to him. Yet her courage of conviction and faith opened up the doors of healing. Without seeing her daughter Jesus bestows mercy.

God’s loving compassion can fill the open heart with courage. How courageous are we in living our faith? Do we stand up in front of those who may ridicule or mock us because of what we believe? Does our call to live the love of God motivate our thoughts, our actions, our behaviours? Does it permeate our every moment and our whole being?
