‘God raised this man Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses to that.’
Without the resurrection, Jesus becomes just another martyr—a rebel who stood up against the powers of the day. With the resurrection, Jesus becomes the pivot point of all created time. All that went before and all that comes after is seen in a new light.
Peter took hold of this new insight. The one who had sometimes failed Jesus in his lifetime now stood courageously before the people and proclaimed the wonder of what Jesus did for all of them. Peter called the people to witness to what they knew in their hearts.
Peter had previously wavered in his courage and yet surely he had as much at risk as, if not more than, we do. He witnessed publicly and powerfully. We too are called to witness. How often do we hold back, thinking it requires more courage that we have?
