Father, in many ways, I am like the Israelites described in the first reading.
How often I forget your love for me and go my own way. Often I am attracted by the glamour of the things around me. Often I place the ‘I’ before our relationship—it is I who will do good; it is I who will get things done. Before I know it, I have turned in on myself, and life becomes an empty series of events.
Yet, when I am moved to repentance and return to you, I find a willingness on your part to bless me and open me to the higher things of life. On that level, I find I am not judging things people do, but, rather, moved by love, I am present to their needs and feelings as they make mistakes, as I myself so often do.
