‘Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.’

We, Lord, are those people, believing in a story that has been told and retold for centuries. It is a story passed on by those who knew him, who saw the things he did and heard the words he spoke.

‘I am the way.’ The way to where? To Jerusalem and disaster? ‘Let us go and die with him’, said fact–facing Thomas. Later, at the final meal in Jerusalem: ‘We do not know where you are going: how can we know the way?’ Going to the Father? ‘Show us the Father.’

‘He is in me and I in him. Those who see me, see the Father—I give you my word for it. As you, Father, are in me and I in you, so also may they be one in us.’ Lord Jesus, help me to believe with full mind and heart.
