‘We heard this ourselves, spoken from heaven.’

This feast always brings back to me the experience of being on the ‘holy mountain’ where tradition has it that Jesus was transfigured. The feelings of our group that day were very different from those of Peter, James and John. We had no fear. Instead we were in awe of the wonder of the place.

As we came away to walk down the mountain, a heavy fog arose, making our experience even more like that of which Peter wrote.

As at Jesus’ baptism the Father again spoke the words: ‘This is my Son, the beloved’, confirming Jesus’ divinity. I remember being filled with grace and peace, and gratitude for the privilege of being on that mountain, and for the deepening of faith I received.
