‘Set your hearts on his kingdom first.’

Let us ponder the people Mary MacKillop worked for and lived among—the isolated, the poor, the itinerant, the destitute. She is noted particularly for her work in educating isolated and poor children. She realised that the children would otherwise be condemned to a life of struggle, to never have a true treasuring of themselves.

We can view Mary as a fighter for justice. Not economic justice but the justice of the kingdom of God. That is the justice that the Bible says is the birthright of every Christian.

Justice is another word for holiness. Justice is given when a true relationship to God is present. This is the justice of the kingdom, the justice which comes from being obedient to the Father, listening to discover the will of God. Jesus was holy. To such holiness we too are called.
