Jesus tells the disciples that it ‘is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven’.
I love this story. I think to myself there is a benefit in being relatively poor after all. But, of course, my wealth is in other places, tied up in other vices, equally hard to give up for a holy pursuit. This is where this story becomes quite confronting: it sounds like I have to make some changes.
The encouraging message is that it is possible. ‘With God all things are possible’. What a wonderful concept. The theory is good—now for the hard part.
