‘The greatest commandment.’
Lord, when you call us to love God with all our heart, with all our mind and with all our strength, you are asking us to put God first in all our thinking and loving and doing.
We can begin to do this when we acknowledge and believe deeply that although we can do no good thing by ourselves God is always with us and by his grace he invites us to walk with him as he strengthens us in our weakness, forgives our failures and pours his love into our hearts. Then, as we try to grow in awareness of his love for us, God helps us to try to be more caring, more loving of others; trying to treat them as God treats us.
The commands are twofold but God’s gift of loving is one.
