Lord, finding you can be so difficult.
I get in the way, tripping over my own fears and doubts and needs. It’s just like the time you came to your own home town, and they didn’t know you. Jesus, I too am part of your home town. Do you come to me without my recognising you?
Just like your own townfolk, I get so mad at you for being so elusive. I want to domesticate you, tame you, bring you down to fit my categories. It’s hard for us to be human, but, dear Lord, it must be so much harder for you to be human. Bear with us, forgive us our narrow-minded rage, keep calling us to you.
